The staff will need knowledge of holistic
scoring and a basic foundation of the strategies used in each
writing style. The staff should be familiar with the state
guidelines for the writing assessment. Professional development
activities will be provided by trained teachers to guide faculty
concerning portfolio guidelines and scoring. Staff members will
also need to be informed of methods to correlate all areas of the
curriculum with writing. Internet resources will be provided to
find various prompts in all styles of writing.

Parents will be made aware of test dates.
Pictures of monthly winners will be displayed in local newpapers.
Also, writing will be displayed in local
newspapers periodically. Guest speakers from various careers will
be invited to share how writing skills are necessary for real world
success. Parents will be encauraged to read journal assisgnments on
a regular basis.
