TRANSFER POLICY

BRADFORD SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

  1. Resident students are defined as students who reside with their parents or legal guardians within the boundaries of the Bradford Special School District.  The district was formed through a legislative act in 1917.

  2. All residents of the Bradford Special School District as defined through the Private Acts of 1917 may attend school within the district.

  3. Students who reside outside the boundaries of the Bradford Special School District may attend the school under the following provisions:

A.       Children of employees who work at least 20 hours per week may attend district schools.

B.       Students residing on a boundary road that divides two districts and where transportation is available to the district may choose the district of choice.

C.       In case of “joint custody” between parents, the child may attend the Bradford Special School District if either of the joint custodial parents reside in the Bradford Special School District.  Parents are required to bring legal court documents to the school principal to prove joint custody.

D.       Any non-resident student or that student’s sibling who attended the Bradford Special School District during the 2004-2005 school year may continue to attend its schools provided that their attendance does not have an adverse effect on the desegregation plan of both the Bradford Special School District and the student’s resident school district; and provided that the student’s resident district has no objection to the student attending the Bradford Special School District.

PROOF OF RESIDENCE

All students shall complete proof of residency forms prior to the beginning of each school year.  A student’s place of residence is defined as the location where the student physically resides full-time.  The location must be where the district can physically verify the exact location.  Parents or legal guardians may use property tax records indicating location, property deed, utility bill, or home lease.  The legal guardian must also provide proof of a visit by a school official or a court decree declaring the resident to be the legal guardian.

Parents or legal guardians of a student seeking to transfer from an adjoining district must submit a signed statement from the sending district superintendent verifying the student residence prior to the opening of school.
